Welcome to the Scottish Stone Liaison Group

Scottish Stone Liaison Group

Seeking to ensure the availability of indigenous materials and skills
for the care, maintenance and future of Scotland's built heritage

Mission statement: The aim of the Scottish Stone Liaison Group is to enhance availability, promote utilisation and advance knowledge and skills in design, specification and use of indigenous Scottish stone in existing and new build projects.

The Scottish Stone Liaison Group, until the 22nd May 2000, operated under the auspices of Historic Scotland, but on that date it was launched as a Company Limited by Guarantee by Rhona Brankin MSP, Deputy Minister for Culture and Sport. The membership of the Group remained the same, comprising many sectors interested and involved in providing services to meet the needs of Scotland's built heritage.

Following the presentation in 1997 of the Hutton + Rostron Report on "A Future for Stone in Scotland", Kidsons Impey was commissioned in 1999 to produce a Business Plan for the development of the Group. This plan has been developed and three Project Teams are charged with the responsibility to progress specific aspects of that Plan.
1. The Natural Stone Institute Project Team
2. The Indigenous Materials Project Team
3. The Scottish Stone Industry Project Team

Information about the activities of these Project Teams is included in SSLG Newsletters. These are available on the web on our Publications page and in hard copy. To receive Newsletters by post, please contact the office at the address given below and your name will be added to the mailing list.
